The Supreme Court has directed the State of Goa to grant one medical seat under the Sports Quota to Pearl Milind Colvalcar, an international sports sailor, for NEET (UG) 2025 admissions.
This relief was granted even though the Court declined to interfere with a High Court order that had struck down Goa’s decision to reserve seats for sportspersons under the Children of Freedom Fighter category.
The Bench clarified that this direction is specific to the facts of the case and not a precedent.
Colvalcar’s claim relied on the Goa Sports Policy, 2009, which earmarks 3% seats for outstanding sportspersons.
