The Supreme Court granted bail to Mekala Thirupathanna, a suspended police officer accused of phone-tapping bureaucrats and High Court judges, after 10 months in custody.
The bench allowed the bail, directing the trial Court to impose conditions, with any breach leading to cancellation.
The SLP challenged the Telangana High Court's October order denying bail. The High Court had initiated suo-moto proceedings in the phone-tapping case, citing "national security" and privacy concerns.
Despite opposition from Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, the Court emphasized the petitioner's clean 59-year service record and lack of allegations prior to this case.
