Supreme Court Urges BCI To Ensure Reservation for Disabled Lawyers in Bar Associations

The Supreme Court urged the Bar Council of India (BCI) to consider reserving seats for lawyers with disabilities in bar association elections and governance bodies.

The Bench issued this direction while hearing a plea filed by lawyer Amit Kumar Yadav seeking equal representation in professional institutions.

The Court underscored the importance of inclusivity, stating that such measures would promote equal participation and help overcome structural disadvantages faced by disabled lawyers in the profession.

The Court clarified that the concerned stakeholders may take an appropriate decision in the matter. With these observations, the Court disposed of Yadav’s plea.
