The Supreme Court has directed the Central government to explain its rationale for excluding persons with haemophilia from the list of specified benchmark disabilities eligible for reservation in UPSC examinations.
A bench questioned the exclusion, noting that haemophilia is a recognised disability under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
The court was hearing a petition challenging the government's notification that omitted haemophilia from the list of disabilities for which reservation is provided in civil services posts, seeking parity with other recognised disabilities.
