Supreme Court Issues Notice on Subramanian Swamy’s Plea to Declare Ram Setu a National Monument

The Supreme Court sought the Union government’s response to former MP Subramanian Swamy’s plea seeking a decision on his representation to declare Ram Setu as a National Monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.

A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued notice to the Union of India and the Archaeological Survey of India, setting a four-week deadline for response.

Swamy filed this plea after the Ministry of Culture failed to respond to his representations, including a fresh submission in May 2025.

He argued Ram Setu’s historical significance and invoked the government’s duty under the Act to declare monuments of national importance.
