Supreme Court Asks Mamata Banerjee and Others to File Fresh Pleas Over Electoral Roll Revision Claims

The Supreme Court has asked Mamata Banerjee and other petitioners to file fresh applications regarding their claims that deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls affected the outcome of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

Senior counsel appearing for the petitioners alleged that in several constituencies, the number of deleted voters exceeded the victory margins. The Court permitted fresh pleas to place these claims on record for detailed consideration.

During the hearing, the Election Commission opposed the submissions and argued that election disputes should ordinarily be addressed through election petitions.
