Supreme Court Rebukes Telangana CM for Saying No Bye-Polls If BRS MLA Join Congree

  • Case Name: Padi Kaushik Reddy v. The State of Telangana & Ors.

The Supreme Court ruled against Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s statement that no by-elections would take place if BRS MLAs switched to the Congress party. 

The Court while hearing pleas on the Telangana Speaker’s delay in deciding disqualification petitions, criticized Reddy’s remarks, calling them a mockery of the Tenth Schedule

Justice Gavai emphasized that ministerial statements made in the House carry sanctity and warned that while the Court may act slowly, it is not powerless to issue contempt notices.
