Supreme Court Clarifies Market Value Compensation for Landowners in Event of Delay

The Supreme Court in a recent decision ruled that landowners must receive market value compensation if there is a delay in payment for acquired land. 

This ruling emphasizes the violation of constitutional rights when compensation is delayed, depriving landowners of fair recompense. 

The Court referenced Indore Development Authority v. Manoharlal (2020) to underscore the necessity for fairness in land acquisition cases.

It also clarified that interest on delayed payment cannot replace the rightful market value, strengthening protections for landowners in compulsory land acquisition situations.
