The Supreme Court criticised Indore-based cartoonist Hemant Malviya for resharing a 2021 cartoon containing objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the RSS, calling it “inflammatory and immature".
Malviya had challenged the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s denial of anticipatory bail, arguing that the FIR seeks to punish artistic expression.
The High Court refused to grant relief under the Arnesh Kumar guidelines and Section 41-A CrPC, citing deliberate provocation.
During the Supreme Court hearing, Malviya’s counsel agreed to withdraw the post. The bench posted the matter for further hearing on July 15. (Hemant Malviya v. State of Madhya Pradesh)
