Supreme Court Declines PIL Against Special Treatment for VIPs in Temples

  • Case Name: Vijay Kishor Goswami v. Union Of India

The Supreme Court refused to entertain a PIL challenging preferential VIP darshans in temples across India, stating that while it may not favor such practices, it cannot issue directions under Article 32.

The petitioner argued that VIP entries create inequality and lead to stampedes, citing recent incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Maha Kumbh, which led the state government to cancel VVIP passes.

The Court clarified that authorities are not barred from addressing the issue.

Recently, the Kerala High Court also criticized preferential darshans after Malayalam actor Dileep received special treatment at Sabarimala temple.
