The Supreme Court declined to urgently list an application seeking phased enforcement of the World Health Organisation’s Air Quality Guidelines amid the ongoing Delhi-NCR smog crisis.
The matter was mentioned before a bench of Justices B.R. Gavai, K. Vinod Chandran, and N.V. Anjaria. Counsel informed the Court that the plea was filed by an environmental law practitioner seeking stricter standards.
The bench, however, referred to the ongoing MC Mehta pollution proceedings and earlier directions to the Commission for Air Quality Management to file an affidavit.
The Court observed that the issue was already under consideration and held that no separate listing was necessary.
