Supreme Court Directs Appeals Against Voter Exclusion in Bihar SIR, Declines Blanket Order

The Supreme Court refused to pass a blanket order on the exclusion of voters in the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The Court directed individuals who believe they were wrongly excluded from the final voters’ list to file appeals with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar. It noted discrepancies in affidavits submitted by some petitioners and observed that examining each case individually was impractical.

To assist the process, the Court instructed the Bihar State Legal Services Authority to provide legal aid and paralegal support. A status report on the appeals is to be submitted within a week.
