Supreme Court Directs Enhanced Facilities for Visually Impaired Candidates in CLAT

The Supreme Court mandated that visually impaired candidates in future Common Law Admission Tests (CLAT) be provided facilities including the use of JAWS screen reader, customised keyboards, and mice, along with the option to use a scribe as per government rules.

The Court extended earlier interim directions issued for the All India Bar Exam (AIBE) to CLAT exams, ensuring necessary software and hardware support.

It emphasized that scribes must not have backgrounds in law or humanities and must possess educational qualifications one step below the candidate’s.

The Court set the next hearing for November 13, 2025, to further consider the matter.
