Supreme Court Tells National Green Tribunal to Act Quickly on Delhi Airport Noise Complaints

The Supreme Court directed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to promptly decide any new applications related to compliance with its 2024 noise monitoring directions to Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) for runway noise levels.

The court heard a challenge to NGT’s refusal to order specific measures on noise pollution from runway 29/11 at IGI Airport, used by over 50% of flights.

The Supreme Court allowed petitioners to file fresh applications, including previous reliefs granted but not yet enforced.

The NGT had earlier ruled that DIAL complied by installing noise monitoring systems at some points but not all runways.
