The Supreme Court dismissed UK-based Lifestyle Equities CV's plea challenging the Delhi High Court Division Bench's stay on a ₹340 crore damages order against Amazon Technologies for trademark infringement.
The dispute arose from Lifestyle’s 2020 complaint, alleging that Amazon’s private label, "Symbol," used logos deceptively similar to its Beverly Hills Polo Club (BHPC) trademark.
A single-judge ruled Amazon liable due to its commercial relationship with Cloudtail India but the Division Bench stayed the order, citing procedural lapses and questioning the massive damages awarded, which exceeded the original ₹2 crore claim. The Supreme Court clarified that the dismissal does not hinder the Delhi High Court's hearing on the merits.
