Supreme Court Upholds 25% Domicile-Based Reservation at NLUJ, Jodhpur

The Supreme Court has dismissed an SLP challenging the Rajasthan High Court’s decision, which upheld a 25% domicile-based reservation at National Law University, Jodhpur.

The bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Atul S. Chandurkar said it is “not inclined to interfere” under Article 136.

The petition, filed by Anindita Biswas, argued that NLUJ’s 2022 resolution and the State notification introducing the quota violated Articles 14 and 15 and had no statutory backing.

The Rajasthan High Court had found the classification reasonable, non-arbitrary, and aligned with promoting access to legal education for state residents.
