Supreme Court Dismisses Plea for Media Gag Order in Nimisha Priya Yemen Execution Case

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a gag order against media coverage of the Nimisha Priya case, involving an Indian nurse facing execution in Yemen.

A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta noted that Attorney General R Venkataramani assured the Court that only the government would hold media briefings, making further restraint unnecessary.

Hearing the parties, the bench opined that it does not have jurisdiction over Yemen and questioned as to why it should entertain the petition.

As it was not inclined to pass a media gag order in view of the Union's assurance, the case was ultimately dismissed as withdrawn.
