The Supreme Court rejected review petitions challenging its November 2024 judgment that quashed preferential land allotments to MPs, MLAs, IAS officers, judges, journalists, and others within Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.
The Court found the policy arbitrary and violative of Article 14, favouring affluent sections and denying equal rights to common citizens.
Despite pleas for equity and arguments highlighting journalists’ lower salaries and lack of benefits, the bench upheld the original ruling.
The Court ordered cancellation of lease deeds and mandated full refunds with interest to cooperative societies and members. The Court emphasized that preferential allotment undermines social solidarity and cannot be sustained legally.
