Supreme Court Dismisses Umar Khalid’s Review Petition Against Bail Denial

The Supreme Court has dismissed a review petition filed by Umar Khalid challenging the denial of bail in the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case.

The bench found no "good ground or reason" to review its January 5 judgment, which had concluded that a prima facie case exists against Khalid under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

While the Court had previously granted bail to five other co-accused, it held that Khalid and Sharjeel Imam stood on a different footing.

The Court reiterated that Khalid may move for bail again after the examination of protected witnesses or one year.
