Supreme Court Disposes PIL On AI Misuse, Notes Centre’s Draft Rules Already Under Consultation

The Supreme Court disposed of a PIL seeking a regulatory framework to prevent misuse of AI-generated content, noting that the Union Government has already released draft amendments to the IT Rules for public consultation.

The petition sought directions to regulate AI tools capable of producing synthetic images, videos and audio impersonations.

Senior counsel informed the Court that MeitY issued the draft in October and held stakeholder meetings, including one on November 13.

Recording that the issues are under active consideration, the Court found no need for further intervention and disposed of the petition.
