The Supreme Court observed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has proceeded smoothly across India, except in West Bengal.
The Bench is hearing petitions, including one by CM Mamata Banerjee, regarding "logical discrepancies" in the state's voter lists.
While petitioners argued West Bengal was uniquely targeted, the Court highlighted the "humongous" task handled by judicial officers, who adjudicated 27 lakh cases without leave.
The Bench entrusted the Calcutta High Court Chief Justice with managing logistical hurdles, suggesting priority for first-phase constituencies.
The matter is scheduled for further hearing on April 1, 2026.
