Supreme Court Examines Andhra Police Probe in Murder Case Against MLC Ananta Udaya Bhaskar

The Supreme Court of India strongly criticised the investigation into the 2022 murder case of YSR Congress Party MLC Ananta Satya Udaya Bhaskar, observing a “clear nexus” between the police and the accused.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul Pancholi remarked that attempts were made to secure default bail under Section 167(2) CrPC, calling it “laxity, if not complicity.”

The case concerns the death of Bhaskar’s driver, Veedhi Subrahmanyam, a Dalit man, in May 2022. The Court noted he has been on interim bail for two years.

Directing the trial to conclude by November 30, 2026, the Court fixed timelines and asked the Andhra Pradesh High Court to ensure weekly monitoring without interim stays.
