The Supreme Court of India has questioned the Madhya Pradesh government for failing to decide on granting sanction to prosecute State minister Kunwar Vijay Shah over his objectionable remarks concerning Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.
The remarks were made at a public event after Colonel Qureshi briefed the media during Operation Sindoor.
The Court noted that a Special Investigation Team sought prosecution sanction in August 2025, but the State had taken no action.
Rejecting the plea that the matter was pending before it, the Court directed the government to take a decision in accordance with law. It also noted that no apology by the minister was on record.
