Supreme Court Extends Stay on 'Udaipur Files' Release, Awaits Petitioners' Response

The Supreme Court has maintained its stay on the release of Udaipur Files, a film based on Kanhaiya Lal’s 2022 murder, despite the Centre clearing it with six modifications to address communal concerns.

The Court directed that the Centre’s order remains binding unless challenged successfully and scheduled the next hearing for July 24 to hear objections from petitioners.

Petitioners opposed the film’s release, arguing it could incite unrest and prejudice on the ongoing trials. The Centre’s expert panel had mandated new disclaimers and the removal of certain objectionable content to mitigate risks of communal disharmony.
