The Supreme Court has extended women’s reservation in Bar Associations to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Bar Association in Delhi, allowing lawyers registered in other states to vote in its elections.
The ruling came while addressing two interlocutory applications, which challenges the Delhi High Court’s directive for simultaneous elections to Bar Associations in Delhi.
Key issues raised included whether out-of-state lawyers needed enrollment with the Bar Council of Delhi to vote and the implementation of women's reservations in the NGT Bar Association.
It ruled that out-of-state lawyers do not need enrollment with the Bar Council of Delhi to vote, as long as they submit the necessary declaration forms.
