The Supreme Court considered Avyaan Foundation's plea for basic amenities for breastfeeding mothers and noted that the Central Government has issued an advisory for breastfeeding rooms and creches in public buildings and workplaces.
The Court emphasized that breastfeeding is essential for a woman's reproductive health and the child's well-being, and must be normalized and facilitated.
It also stated that the advisory aligns with the fundamental rights under Article 14 and Article 15(3) of the Indian Constitution.
The Supreme Court has also directed the Central Government to issue the same advisory to the State Government as a reminder and get the requirements fulfilled.
