The Supreme Court flagged delays in judgment delivery and observed that “some judges take too many breaks,” calling for a performance audit of High Court judges.
The remark came while hearing a plea involving life convicts from Scheduled Tribe and OBC communities, where appeals were pending for 2–3 years.
The court remarked on inefficient time use, including frequent breaks. The bench emphasized the need for systemic reforms.
Earlier, the court had sought reports on delayed judgments and may soon frame mandatory guidelines to uphold public confidence in the judiciary. The matter will be heard again in July.
