Supreme Court Asks NHAI, MCD To Consider Shifting Or Closing Delhi Border Toll Plazas To Curb Pollution

The Supreme Court has directed NHAI and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to urgently examine the temporary closure or relocation of nine toll plazas at Delhi’s borders to ease traffic congestion and reduce air pollution.

The Bench observed that long queues at toll points significantly increase vehicular emissions and disrupt daily life.

Expressing strong displeasure, the CJI suggested suspending toll collection till January and exploring alternative toll locations farther away from city limits.

The Court asked the authorities to take a decision within a week and place their response on record.
