The Supreme Court set aside the conviction of Surendra Koli in the final pending case linked to the 2006 Nithari serial killings, ordering his immediate release.
A Bench of Chief Justice B. R. Gavai, Justice Surya Kant, and Justice Vikram Nath heard Koli’s curative petition and noted that he had already been acquitted in twelve other related cases.
The Court recalled its earlier rulings from 2011 and 2014 and the 2009 trial court verdicts, concluding that continued incarceration was unjustified. This decision brings closure to one of India’s most gruesome and prolonged criminal sagas, spanning nearly two decades of trials and appeals.
