In a 25-year-old cheque bounce case, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to CK Abdurahiman, who claims he was wrongly convicted for issuing a ₹20 lakh cheque that bounced in 1999.
The Court suspended his sentence but directed him to deposit ₹10 lakh. Abdurahiman contends that the real issuer was CK Abdullakutty, a different person with a similar name.
While the Kerala High Court upheld the conviction, the Supreme Court noted that the mistaken identity claim, though unusual, warranted review and allowed the challenge to proceed. (CK Abdurahiman@ Manu v. Mukkath Marakkar Haji & Anr.)
