Supreme Court Grants Bail in Mob Vandalism Case Flags Official Inaction Over Illegal Sand Mining

The Supreme Court granted bail to a man sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a mob vandalism case from Rajasthan.

The Court noted that villagers had repeatedly complained about illegal sand mining and stone crushing, but authorities failed to act. It observed that the incident appeared to be a direct result of official inaction and expressed anguish over the situation.

The Court directed the State to furnish the names and designations of officers responsible at the relevant time. It also asked the petitioner to file material showing illegal mining activities.

The appeal remains pending before the High Court.
