The Supreme Court dismissed a high-profile alimony plea where a woman, after an 18‑month marriage, demanded ₹12 crore, a luxury flat, and a BMW. The Court emphasised that educated professionals should not opt for unemployment and rely on perpetual financial support.
It granted divorce and directed the husband to transfer a flat in Mumbai valued at approximately ₹4 crore or alternatively pay a one-time settlement of ₹4 crore.
During a previous hearing, the Court questioned the justification of such a demand, noting her MBA degree and experience in the IT sector.
