Supreme Court grants interim relief to lawyer accused of stealing court file

The Supreme Court granted interim relief to lawyer, Hardyal Inder Singh, accused of stealing a judicial file and computer screen from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Ludhiana, Punjab.

The case arose from FIR No. 44 (Feb 28, 2022) lodged against Singh which includes multiple charges under IPC sections, including theft, stolen property, housebreaking, conspiracy, breach of trust, disappearance of evidence, and mischief.  

Further, Singh filed a Special Leave Petition after Punjab and Haryana HC denied him anticipatory bail. The Supreme Court emphasized safeguarding personal liberty granted interim relief and scheduled the next hearing for January 2025.
