Supreme Court Grants Anticipatory Bail to Former Nagaland Judge Accused of Misappropriating Bail Surety

  • Case Name: Inalo Zhimomi v. The State of Nagaland

The Supreme Court granted anticipatory bail to Inalo Zhimomi, former Principal District and Sessions Judge of Dimapur, Nagaland, accused of misappropriating ₹14.35 lakh in bail surety funds across 28 pending criminal cases.

The bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan allowed bail on the condition that Zhimomi cooperates with the investigation until the Gauhati High Court decides his pending writ petition.

Zhimomi contended that he is being maliciously prosecuted for exposing systemic lapses in Nagaland’s cash surety system. He has challenged his compulsory retirement and the criminal proceedings, alleging violations of natural justice principles.
