Supreme Court Increases LDCE Quota for District Judge Promotions to 25%

The Supreme Court has raised the quota for District Judge promotions through the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) from 10% to 25%, directing all State Governments and High Courts to amend their service rules.

The court also reduced the minimum qualifying service for LDCE to three years as a Civil Judge (Senior Division), with seven years of total judicial service.

The Court held that 10% of Civil Judge (Senior Division) posts must be reserved for faster promotion from the Junior Division through LDCE, aiming to improve career progression within the judiciary.
