The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Centre and all States in the Presidential reference on whether timelines can be set for Governors and the President to act on State Bills.
A Constitution Bench led by CJI BR Gavai asked Attorney General R Venkataramani to assist the Court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta will appear for the Centre. Senior Advocates KK Venugopal (Kerala) and P Wilson (Tamil Nadu) opposed the case’s maintainability.
The reference questions the Court’s April ruling that prescribed time limits for constitutional authorities to decide on Bills. Next hearing is July 29.
