Supreme Court Issues Notice on ED Plea Against Anil Pawar’s Release

The Supreme Court has issued notice on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) petition challenging the Bombay High Court order declaring the arrest of former Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) Commissioner Anil Pawar illegal.

The High Court had found the arrest violative of mandatory provisions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and consequently ordered Pawar’s release. Subsequently, the ED approached the apex court seeking a reversal of the order.

The Supreme Court held that the case involved significant legal questions on procedural compliance under the PMLA and warranted detailed examination, directing issuance of notice to the concerned respondents.
