Despite the upcoming summer break, the Supreme Court is keen on continuing judicial work during vacation. Justice Surya Kant noted the bench's willingness to hear cases but highlighted the difficulty in convincing the Bar to participate, calling it a “struggle” to align efforts.
Justice Dipankar Datta termed the current days as “partial working days.” Echoing similar sentiments, CJI BR Gavai stated that although five judges will be working through vacation, lawyers are reluctant, yet the judiciary is often blamed for the backlog.
A notification on May 17 confirmed that 21 vacation benches will function from May 26 to July 14.
