Supreme Court Declines to Rule on Lokayukta’s Right to Challenge Tribunal Orders

The Supreme Court refused to decide whether a Lokayukta has the Locus to challenge an administrative tribunal's decision that overturns a compulsory retirement issued as punishment to a government official in a corruption case.

The Court observed that the disciplinary authority, not the Lokayukta, a quasi-judicial body, should have appealed the decision, especially as the Lokayukta was only made a party to the proceedings.

The petition was dismissed due to a 277-day delay, leaving the key question of the Lokayukta's locus standi unresolved.
