Supreme Court: No Extra Women’s Quota Needed in SCBA Senior Executive as Three Women Already Elected

  • Case Name: Supreme Court Bar Association v. BD Kaushik

The Supreme Court held that no further reservation for women is required in the Senior Executive Members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) since three out of six elected members are women, meeting the Court’s earlier mandate for minimum representation.

The bench clarified that the object was to have at least two women in the Senior Executive and not to have strict reservations.

The Court said that if women secure seats by merit, then there is no need for reservation, and the intent is representation, not denial to deserving individuals.
