The Supreme Court has objected to the title “Ghooskhor Pandat” for a Netflix series directed by Neeraj Pandey and starring Manoj Bajpayee, observing that the phrase appears to stereotype and denigrate the Brahmin community by suggesting corrupt priests.
The matter arose after a PIL prompted the Delhi High Court to record the producers’ intent to change the title.
Hearing the petition, Justices BV Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan questioned whether the portrayal falls within Article 19(1)(a) limits and issued notice to Netflix, the CBFC, and the Centre.
The Court directed the makers to file an affidavit disclosing the revised title by February 19, 2026, and restrained the release of the series until compliance.
