The Supreme Court has directed police to arrest anyone found initiating even minor unauthorised construction in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk.
Hearing a matter related to rampant illegal construction in the area, a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi also ordered the sealing of all properties where such activity is underway.
The Court criticised the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for inaction and possible collusion with builders, urging strict penal action.
The Court further barred commercial activity in residential properties and instructed the police to patrol daily, with compliance reports to be filed by the local DCP.
