Supreme Court Directs Maharashtra Government to Hold Local Body Polls by January 31, 2026

The Supreme Court directs the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) and state government to conduct local body elections, including Zila Parishads, Panchayat Samitis, and municipalities, by January 31, 2026. 

The Court also ordered that delimitation for municipalities be completed by October 31, 2025, and cannot be delayed. 

The Court criticised the State Election Commission (SEC) for missing earlier deadlines, citing excuses like insufficient EVMs, unavailable school premises, and other logistical issues.
