Supreme Court Orders Preservation of CCTV and Medical Evidence in Mumbai Custodial Death Case

The Supreme Court directed authorities to preserve all CCTV footage and medical records related to the recent Mumbai custodial death case.

The Bench, hearing an SLP filed by the deceased’s mother against the Bombay High Court’s September 24 order, underscored the need to maintain the integrity of evidence in custody-related deaths.

The Court further ordered the establishment of a secure chain of custody for all electronic and medical materials until the investigation concludes.

The Court took suo motu cognisance following a Dainik Bhaskar report revealing that around eleven persons have died in police custody in the past seven to eight months.
