Supreme Court Orders States to Develop Protocols for Timely Assistance to Road Accident Victims

  • Case Name: S Rajaseekaran vs. Union of India & Ors.

The Supreme Court directed all States and Union Territories to establish and implement protocols within six months to ensure timely assistance to road accident victims, particularly in cases where victims are trapped in vehicles.

The Court highlighted the need to enforce driver work-hour limits to prevent fatigue-related accidents and urged the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to consult with State authorities on this matter.

Additionally, NHAI was tasked with exploring real-time speed monitoring technology. The Centre was also directed to expedite the formation of the National Road Safety Board.

States and UTs must submit action reports within six months, with a consolidated report from the Ministry.
