The Supreme Court has permitted the Central Government to reconsider and reconcile Vodafone Idea’s adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues amounting to ₹5,606 crore for the financial year 2016–17.
The order came in a writ petition filed by the telecom company challenging the Department of Telecommunications’ additional demand for the same period. Vodafone contended that the demand was unsustainable, as its liabilities had already been finalised under the Supreme Court’s 2019 AGR judgment.
Clarifying that the direction was issued in view of the peculiar facts and policy-based nature of the issue, the Court allowed the Centre to undertake a fresh examination of the dues.
