A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking the extension of the POSH Act, 2013 (Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act) to political parties, arguing that women working within such parties face workplace-like environments without any statutory safeguards.
The petitioner highlights the inconsistencies of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in political outfits despite their structured hierarchies and regular functioning.
The plea seeks the Court’s direction to mandate compliance with the Act by national and regional political parties to ensure safe working spaces for women in politics, in line with constitutional principles of equality and dignity. (MS. Yogamaya M.G. v. Union of India & Ors.)
