Supreme Court Pulls Up Advocate for Misusing Judicial Process Over Designation Disputes

The Supreme Court strongly rebuked a lawyer for repeatedly filing petitions challenging the Delhi High Court's senior advocate designations.

A Bench comprising CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi threatened to impose a hefty cost of ₹25 lakh if the petitioner continued to misuse the judicial process.

The Court observed that the petitioner, who was not designated, had filed multiple pleas despite earlier rejections.

Dismissing the current special leave petition as withdrawn, the Bench warned that even if the High Court were to grant him senior status in the future, the Apex Court would step in to set it aside due to his persistent misconduct.
