The Supreme Court is considering the implementation of hologram-based, color-coded stickers nationwide to address pollution issues.
Since April 2019, these stickers categorize vehicles based on their fuel type: light blue for petrol and CNG, orange for diesel, and a proposed green for electric and hybrid models. They also indicate the vehicle’s registration date.
The court emphasized the importance of adhering to Pollution Under Control (PUC) standards and discussed the possibility of extending strict GRAP-4 restrictions as the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi approached hazardous levels.
Public sector agencies might be instructed to prioritize the procurement of electric vehicles. This matter will be re-assessed on January 27.
