The Supreme Court ordered to set aside the Kerala Cricket Association’s (KCA) decision to impose a life ban on cricketer Santhosh Karunakaran.
A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta held that the Ombudsman’s dismissal of Karunakaran’s plea for uniform district-level bye-laws lacked transparency.
The Court also found the Kerala High Court’s rejection of Karunakaran’s challenge was disproportionately harsh and was ultimately quashed.
The Court directed that Karunakaran’s case be reconsidered by the Ombudsman, with a reasoned order to be passed within three months.
